Assessment of Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) Bark Extract on Proximate Composition and Sensory Qualities of Smoked-Dried African Catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822)

The study determined the effect of Cinnamon (Cinnamonum verum) bark extract solution on proximate composition and sensory evaluation of smoke-dried catfish stored at ambient temperature (37+2oC) for 28 days. The experimental treatments are the control, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5 %( w/v) cinnamon bark extract solutions. Thirty-nine fish of average mean weight of 24.87+1.25g were gutted, washed and randomly assigned to the treatments. Thereafter, the fish were soaked into the treatments for 30minutes and later hot smoked for 12hours. After smoking, the fish were stored in boxes and placed on laboratory table for one month. The catfish Clarias gariepinus treated with 1% solution of Cinnamon bark extract had the highest moisture content with mean value 13.65+0.82%, followed by 6.93+1.66% recorded in fish sample treated with 1.5% solution of the extract, lowest percentage crude protein content 38.15+0.82% was observed in fish treated with 1% concentrate of the extract and percentage carbohydrate content indicate that the control have the lowest carbohydrate content with mean value 1.92+0.01% which is significantly different (p<0.05) from other treated sample while sample treated with 1.5% solution of the Cinnamon bark extract have the highest percentage carbohydrate with mean value 15.73+1.64%.Sensory evaluation was also assessed using 7-point hedonic scale and reveals that the smoked catfish retained very good score for appearance, colour, flavour, texture and general acceptance after 28days of storage and the overall acceptability mean score in fish treated with 5g and 15g cinnamon bark extract solution indicate the product is being generally accepted (2.87+0.59%) and (2.34+0.56%) respectively. Cinnamon (Cinnamonum verum) bark extract solution could be used to protect stored smoke-dried catfish from loss of nutritional value and general acceptability thus limiting economic loss and possible health risk to consumers.

The Exchange Rate Analysis of Fishery Product Processors in Bandung Regency, Indonesia

This study is about the analysis of the exchange rate of fishery product processors (NTPI) in Bandung Regency. This study aims to analyze the NTPI in Bandung Regency and analyze the price index of processed fishery products in Bandung Regency to find out the level of welfare. The method used in this study is a survey method with interview techniques using questionnaire, the types of data collected include primary data and secondary data. The research data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis methods. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the  NTPI in Bandung Regency as a whole, both processing bloater, shredded fish, and fish balls has an NTPI > 100 which indicates that fishery processors in Bandung Regency are at a prosperous level and prices increase in the base year and 2021 only occurred in processed fish floss and fish balls although they were not large, while in the processed bloater there was no price increase at all from the base year until 2021.

The Exchange Rate Analysis of Fish Cultivators in Bandung District, Indonesia

Bandung Regency is one of the fisheries centers in West Java Province, some residents make freshwater fish farming their main and side livelihood, to see the welfare of fish cultivators in Bandung Regency, namely using the Fish Cultivator Exchange Rate (NTPI). This study aims to analyze the NTPI of Bandung Regency and analyze the factors that can affect the NTPI. The research method used is descriptive observation and interviews. The results showed that most of the fish cultivators in Bandung Regency were in a prosperous condition because they obtained NTPI > 100. The results of multiple linear regression show that age, education, work experience, number of dependents, income and expenses affect the NTPI of Bandung Regency. Partially the factors that have a significant effect are income and expenses. Variables that do not significantly affect are age, education, work experience, number of dependents and land area. Based on the results of the NTPI, as many as 79% of respondents are prosperous and 11% are in the less prosperous level.

Analysis of the Competitiveness of Ponds Aquaculture in West Java Province

The level of competitiveness is one of the parameters in the concept of sustainability. The fisheries sector has a strategic role in national development, one of which is aquaculture. Ponds aquaculture is the most widespread in the province of West Java. So that fishery production in West Java is mostly dominated by production from ponds and has the opportunity to be developed when viewed from the productivity achieved at this time which is already quite high. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitiveness profile of ponds aquaculture in the regency/city of West Java Province. The study was conducted in November 2020 – June 2021. The method used was a literature survey to determine the competitiveness of aquaculture in ponds in West Java Province. The data obtained in the form of primary data and secondary data were analyzed descriptively. Primary data in the form of expert opinions. Secondary data is in the form of aquaculture statistical data in ponds with the main indicators, namely human resources, facilities, facilities and infrastructure, production, and Science and Technology with time series data from 2004 – 2019 Department of Marine and Fisheries of West Java Province. The results showed that the competitiveness profile of aquaculture in ponds in 2019 in West Java Province with the first rank of very high competitiveness was occupied by Ciamis Regency because it was superior in human resources, facilities and infrastructure, and production, the second rank of high competitiveness is occupied by Bogor Regency because it was superior in production, the third rank of high competitiveness is occupied by Indramayu Regency because it was superior in production and the application of science and technology.

A Review on pH, DO and BOD of the Sitalakhya River during Last Four Decades

As a developing country, industrialization is rapidly growing up in Bangladesh. Most of the cases, the industrialization process don’t considering any impact on environmental body. In this study, the impact of unplanned industrialization on the surface water is the main focus. In between several resources, the water quality of the Sitalakhya River is our study area. Quality of the Sitalakhya River water is getting polluted day by day through industrial effluents and household wastewater, lube oil and oil spillage around the operation of river ports. The Sitalakhya river water quality analysis is considered between 1975 to 2018, qualitative and quantitative results for pH, DO and BOD were analyzed and also trends of these parameters were also analyzed. Day by day river water quality going far away from EQS value, which is significantly harmful to flora fauna. In this circumstance, industrial effluent and other environmental impacts from unplanned industrialization is main goal of this study. This study shows, how unplanned industrialization can damage an environmental system which is very harmful to our entire ecological cycle. If cannot control this unplanned industrialization, water body will damage and all related ecosystem will be effected.
